Wanting to show Australia how passionate she is about food and cooking, Isabella auditioned for Junior MasterChef and was absolutely delighted she and her twin sister Sofia got through to the Top 12. Isabella loves cooking Italian cuisine taught by her mum as well as cooking traditional Sicilian dishes she learnt from her nonna and auntie.

Cooking since the age of five, Isabella loves experimenting with different flavours and combinations and admits she now reads recipes more closely after a dessert dish she was making ended up a savoury dish.

Isabella dreams of one day opening up her very own restaurant with her twin sister which has already been named Issofia. Isabella will be head chef and Sofia will be the manager – Isabella is so passionate about this dream that she has already started making up menus and business cards

Sofia Top 12

Name: Sofia
State: Queensland
Age: 12
Specialty Dish:  Falsomagro (A stuffed meat roll with egg, cheese, salami, garlic and parsley served with crumbed eggplant)

Biography

Having a twin sister Isabella who is equally talented in the kitchen doesn’t worry Sofia one bit. Sofia began cooking in the kitchen from the ripe age of three and her favorite meal to cook are Italian dishes like Sicilian Pasta Di Mandorle which is a traditional almond biscuit that’s crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. Sofia’s favorite person to cook for is her father and she is inspired to learn different cooking techniques from celebrity chefs Jamie Oliver and Nigella Lawson.

Despite a cooking disaster involving pink food colouring and pancakes, Sofia has managed to invent her very own recipe for a hot apple pie and her favorite judge is Gary.

Other than her cooking talents, Sofia is an avid violinist and song writer who often composes lyrics with her twin sister.

Jack

Jack Top 12

Name: Jack
State: Tasmania
Age: 12
Specialty Dish:  Beef Bourguignon
Least Favorite Food: Lambs brains
Game Plan: “To try as hard as I can and cook food that I like to eat.”

Biography

Realising cooking was a great way to express himself creatively, Jack began cooking when he was nine-years-old and once made an impressive croquembouche for a friend’s dinner party which ended up collapsing in the car on the way there.

Jack was inspired to start cooking after watching the movie Julia and Julia and loves cooking because it means he can be creative, have fun and relax at the same time. Learning to cook from his mum with Julia Child’s cookbooks, Jacks admits his biggest challenge in the competition is getting the judges to like and appreciate his creative food style.

Jack enjoys the challenge of cooking a complex dish and wants to be a chef who specialises in molecular gastronomy like his idol Heston Blumenthal.

Jack’s favourite judge is Anna, and in his spare time he plays several musical instruments including the bagpipes, double bass and trumpet.

Siena Top 12

Name: Siena
State: Victoria
Age: 9

Biography

Although Siena is the youngest competitor in Junior MasterChef she certainly is one of the toughest.

After her dad told her about the show, Siena decided to audition because she thought it would be really fun and a great experience to meet like-minded kids who enjoy cooking as much as she does.

Siena loves cooking so much that she invented a cooking club where she teaches all of her friends how to cook different recipes.

Siena’s sweet tooth means her favorite dishes are desserts and to prove it – the first thing she ever cooked was muffins when she was just four-years-old. Siena says when she grows up, she wants to open her very own patisserie.

Her greatest cooking inspiration is her mum.

Since joining the competition Siena has mastered the fine art of cooking a good steak.

Lucy loves being in the kitchen and experimenting with organic produce, just like MasterChef 2010 contestant Skye.

Lucy’s funniest cooking moment involves her and her dad cooking chestnuts in the oven, and one of the shells blowing up and almost catching on fire.

Earth Day Your Way!

Whether you're a green-at-heart queen or a just-do-my-part tween, there are many special things you can do for Earth Day that will inspire you to do more for the earth everyday!

For the Facebook/internet Addict! :
Post a video online explaining why you care about a specific environmental cause, like saving the sharks or conserving water. Get your friends to share it and spread it you ideas!

For the Future Business Woman/Tweentrpreneur! :
Hold an Earth Day Garage Sale in your neighborhood (your family can help) and sell all the things you no longer need. Donate half ( or all ) your earnings to an eco charity.

For Creative Young Chef! :
Help mom prepare a day's worth of all-fruit-and-veggie meals. Think outside the salad box and add your own creative twist! You can search online or flip thorough cooking magazines like Yummy for cool mouth-watering ideas!

For the Barkada Gimmick Planner : Hold a nature or animal film movie marathon with your friends! Not only will it be fun, but they'll also get you thinking about what life would be like without the oceans (Disney's Oceans), or if we lived in a world of trash ( Wall-E).

For the Sporty Gal! :
Learn to ride a bike. It's an important skill you'll never forget and, when you're older , you can bike to places instead of using a car. Already know how? Teach a younger sibling or a friend.

I really think you can help the Earth with these simple things. Try doing it at home and see if it works.

Easter is here and so is Hop!

Did you hear about Hop? If you haven't, well you're in luck because I will tell you all about it.  Hop is a movie about a bunny named EB who was about to be crowned The Easter Bunny.

EB was not interested in becoming the Easter Bunny.  He wanted to be a drummer instead; so on the day of his coronation, he runs away. He meets a human in the middle of his adventure and becomes friends with him. I found the movie nice and cool because a human and a bunny became best friends.

This Movie made me want to take a look at Easter Island. Did you know that Easter Island is part of Chile? Did you also know that Easter Island is famous for its 887 extant monumental statues called moai created by the early Rapanui people? In the movie, they used these statues as the door to the underground chocolate and candy factory.

If you have time, go and watch Hop because you might have fun.

Live to Dance

Dancers from all over the country auditioned for Live to Dance.

This show premiered on January 4, 2011 and is headlined by a dance choreographer, popstar and a previous American Idol judge Paula Abdul as lead judge. Judging with her is former Pussycat doll member Kimberly Wyatt.

Judging with the other judges is Michael Jackson's long-time choreographer Travis Payne. This Show has announced that they will not make a second season.

I thought that this show was amazing because they allowed a 93 years old lady to audition.  This show is the American version of the British dance competition Got to Dance.  An Australian version will be filmed in 2011.

Life after Junior MasterChef for Isabella and Jack

Here's the latest news about Junior Master Chef finalists, Isabella and Jack!

They’ve impressed Australia with their culinary competence on the show, now the two finalists share their hopes for the future – along with their favourite recipes.
Isabella's dream

Isabella, who’s been described as an “adult chef in a little body”, now has a legion of fans around the country. “Everyone wants me to cook for them,” she says. “I have a waiting list!”
But regardless of her success, some things will never change for Junior MasterChef’s Isabella. “I know I’m back in reality when my mum tells me to tidy up my room,” laughs the 12-year-old.
What Isabella still loves most is hanging out with her twin and best buddy Sofia, who also cooked her heart out on Junior MasterChef.

Jack's Dream

He’s the Tasmanian 12-year-old whose life has changed beyond his wildest dreams. Lately, Junior MasterChef’s Jack has had lots of practice at signing his autograph.
“The show’s changed things heaps,” grins the lively lad, who’s back home in Hobart. “Wherever I am now, people say ‘You’re Jack!’ Everyone recognizes me.”
